A call out to the people of West Yorkshire

For the month of May I have been invited to be Artist in Residence at The Art House, Wakefield. I am using the residency to create a visual archive of the War Memorials found in West Yorkshire.

Since arriving in Wakefield on 27 April 2016 I have covered a great deal of ground and photographed almost a hundred monuments. However I can’t hope to photograph all of the memorials in the area by myself and I am looking for help from people who live and work in West Yorkshire to complete the collection of images.

If you have an image of a West Yorkshire War Memorial that you would like to be included in the project please email it to Lizzie Hughes at cenotaph.obelisk@gmail.com . Ideally I would like recently taken photographs with a good resolution that clearly show the monuments in the centre of the frame (like the examples below) but I’d be delighted to receive anything you have! Don’t forget to include the location of the monument and your full name so that the image can be attributed to you. All of the images gathered will be shown at The Art House during the Wakefield Art Walk on Wednesday 25 May 2016.

A sheet with a list of monuments that I already have a photofraph of and those that I am still looking to acquire can be found HERE and a map showing the location of monuments can be found HERE. (Please note, if the memorial is numbered in green I already have that one!) These lists are incomplete and don't yet cover the whole of West Yorkshire. I'll be added to the lists each day but if you know of a monument that I haven't yet added please don't let that stop you sending an image.
I look forward to receiving your photographs.
